How to play Chess Arena
Chess Arena on ZGame offers Easy, Normal and Hard AI difficulty modes, plus two-player pass-and-play on the same device. Watch the computer move at a readable pace, with a clear from-to preview, colorful move highlights and move history. All standard chess rules are supported: castling, en passant, pawn promotion, check, checkmate, stalemate and draws. Use optional clocks, move hints, undo and flip board. Save a match to your device or ZGame account; AI wins earn leaderboard points.
Choose vs Computer or 2 Players on one device. For computer play, select Easy, Normal or Hard and choose your side. Tap a piece and one of its highlighted squares. The computer shows its intended move and highlights the source and destination after moving.
Open-source attribution
This ZGame version adapts Chess engine by Kaj Björklund. The bundled source is distributed under MIT. ZGame adds its own responsive player integration, account saves, score handling and surrounding instructions.
Controls
- Desktop and mobile: Tap a piece then tap a highlighted destination
- Play vs AI: Easy, Normal or Hard; choose White, Black or random
- AI moves pause briefly, preview FROM and TO squares and stay highlighted afterward
- Local friends: Two players on one device, optional clocks
- Undo, flip board, hint, resign, pawn promotion, pause, restart and Save Progress
Tips
- Watch the golden FROM square and blue TO square whenever the computer moves.
- Protect your king while developing knights and bishops in the opening.
- Look for checks, captures and threats before committing to a move.
- Choose Easy to learn, Normal for practice and Hard for a stronger challenge.
