How to play 2048
In ZGame’s 2048 number puzzle, every swipe moves the whole four-by-four grid, and equal neighbouring tiles combine into one higher number. Joining two 8 tiles makes 16; joining two 16 tiles makes 32, and the sequence continues toward the 2048 tile. A new numbered tile appears after a successful move, so careless direction changes can fill the board. ZGame adds a consistent touch-friendly player, best-score tracking and Save Progress to restore your exact tile arrangement instead of restarting the puzzle from zero.
Use the arrow keys on a computer or swipe in any direction on your phone. Every move slides all tiles as far as possible. Equal tiles merge once when they collide during the same move, and a new tile appears whenever the board changes. Try to keep your highest number near a corner while merging smaller tiles into it. If you need to stop, use Save Progress to continue the exact board later.
2048 strategy: make room before you merge
Suppose two 16 tiles are separated by an 8. Moving all the tiles does not immediately make 32: the equal tiles have to touch along the move direction. Before you swipe, look at the whole row or column and make sure it will leave a useful empty square afterward.
Why did a new tile appear?
Each successful move creates a new numbered tile. That is why repeated random swipes quickly fill the 4×4 grid. Keeping your largest tile near one corner makes it easier to build smaller values into that corner without moving the biggest number.
Will my game restart if I leave?
Use Save Progress before exiting. ZGame can store the tile layout and current score so you can resume the same puzzle, rather than simply restoring a best-score number.

Controls
- Desktop: Arrow keys
- Mobile: Swipe up, down, left or right
- Save and resume restores the complete board
Tips
- Try to keep your biggest tile anchored to a single corner rather than moving it around the board.
- Merge small values toward the large tile in a consistent row or column.
- Watch the empty squares: a full grid with no matching neighbours ends the run.
- A swipe that cannot move or merge any tile does not improve the board.
- Use Save Progress before leaving if you want to continue the same puzzle.
